Baira Siul Hydroelectric Project – NHPC’s Pioneering Powerhouse in Chamba

Overview:
Commissioned in 1980, the Baira Siul HEP is a 180 MW run-of-the-river project developed and operated by NHPC Limited. Located in the Chaurah subdivision of Chamba, it harnesses the combined flow of the Baira, Siul, and Bhaledh streams, all tributaries of the Ravi River. With its underground powerhouse and high-head design, it marked a major milestone in India’s early hydropower development.
