A reservoir born of courage, where water flows from a woman’s selfless act and the hills whisper her name
🔱 The Legend – A Daughter-in-Law’s Ultimate Gift
Centuries ago, the Auhar region suffered a severe water crisis. The local ruler of Barsandh village dreamt that only a human sacrifice—his son or daughter-in-law—could summon water from the earth. Rukmani, a newlywed from Taredh village, chose to sacrifice herself to save her husband and the parched land.
💔 She was buried alive at the site where the Kund now stands. Even today, villagers from her native place do not drink or bathe in the Kund’s waters, honoring her sacrifice with solemn pride.
🌿 Rituals and Cultural Reverence
- Grass called “Baggad” hangs from the Kund’s walls—believed to be Rukmani’s hair. Visitors tie ribbons and bangles to it as tribute
- The water is said to have healing properties, especially for skin ailments
- A Baishakhi Mela is held annually to honor Rukmani’s memory, drawing pilgrims and locals alike
