🛕 Historical Significance

Believed to have been constructed between the 9th and 10th centuries, the temple stands on the remnants of an even older shrine. The architecture reflects a blend of Indo-Aryan and traditional Himachali styles, with a pyramidal roof, intricate stone carvings, and a golden kalasha atop the sanctum.

The temple complex also includes five smaller shrines, locally known as Pandava Ka Khilona, believed to have been built by the Pandavas during their exile.

🕉️ Deity & Legends

The main deity, Hateshwari Mata, is depicted as Mahishasura Mardini—the slayer of the demon Mahishasura. The 1.2-meter-high idol, dating back to the 7th century, has eight arms and is adorned with copper and silver detailing. One of her feet is said to extend underground, symbolizing her eternal presence.

A fascinating legend surrounds a giant copper vessel chained near the sanctum. It is believed to have floated down the river during a storm and was offered to the goddess by a priest. Locals believe that spotting the vessel during sowing season brings a bountiful harvest.
