Welcome to Lahaul & Spiti

A district of ancient monasteries, cold-desert valleys, glacial lakes, high mountain passes and unforgettable Himalayan silence.

Lahaul & Spiti brings together two extraordinary Himalayan worlds: the green river valleys of Lahaul and the stark, moonlike cold desert of Spiti. It is a district of high passes, monasteries, glacial lakes, ancient villages, prayer flags, snow peaks and long road journeys that feel truly remote.

The district feels different from lower Himachal because the landscape is bigger, quieter and more demanding. Villages sit between bare mountains, prayer flags, barley fields and snow-fed rivers, while monasteries and old trade routes preserve the memory of trans-Himalayan culture.

Why Lahaul & Spiti stands out

  • One of Himachal’s richest districts for temples, Tibetan culture, heritage, nature and adventure
  • Excellent route combinations linking Manali, Atal Tunnel, Sissu, Keylong, Kunzum Pass, Kaza, Tabo, Pin Valley and Chandratal
  • Ideal for families, pilgrims, trekkers, culture lovers, photographers and slow travellers
  • Home to ancient monasteries, glacial lakes, high-altitude villages, sacred peaks and dramatic cold-desert landscapes
